Camp Rockaway

Camp Rockaway

Camp Rockaway, which recently concluded a successful Kickstarter campaign, held an open house tent this past weekend for backers.

The brainchild of founder Kent Johnson, Camp Rockaway harkens back to the area’s turn of the (20th) century roots as a Tent City. The Camp is designed to appeal to visitors as a low-cost, low-impact alternative to hotels. Although Johnson has not yet secured a site, he is working closely with the City to make sure all the plans are up to code. That includes an easy pack-up design in the event of a storm.

The tents are simply designed, built on a wood platform, with just a bed, two chairs, and two small end tables. Each tent will also have a private deck. See more photos of the demo tent here.
