Playland Motel is open for business Adding to Rockaway’s vibrant new food scene, the hotly anticipated Playland Motel has opened in the old Tap & Grill space on Rockaway Beach Boulevard. Named after the beloved amusement park that operated across the street until the mid-1980s, the Playland Motel evokes a casual beach ambience, ideal for a post-surfing drink or meal. Right now, the Motel is serving a limited menu. Whitney Aycock has been hired as executive chef, and is putting the finishing touches on the restaurant and pizzeria menus. There are also 12 rooms available for seasonal rental via Playland’s Facebook page. This is good news for Rockaway’s hospitality industry since the Boatel is temporarily shuttered.
