Update on The Tap & Grill Cayuga Capital partner Jamie Wiseman contacted rockawayist yesterday to discuss his plans renovate the Tap & Grill building on Beach 97th Street. Since the area is not zoned for transient housing, a hotel is not in the plans for the residential portion of the building. Instead, the 12 apartments will be renovated and offered as rentals. As far as the restaurant and bar, Mr. Wiseman has not settled on a management team to run the kitchen. He denied rumors that David Selig of Rockaway Taco was involved. However he did say his overall goal was to hire someone who would run it as much for the local residents as for the visitors. His vision is to create a “not too high end” establishment where patrons can enjoy a drink and a meal, and on a year-round basis. The property is in need of repair and update. While there is not much activity at the site, Mr. Wiseman and his team are still settling on the architectural plans and obtaining the necessary permits. Renovations should start to take shape in early 2013, with an opening date targeted to the start of the summer season next year.
